ViniVault/Apps
A vinyl collector app for the shelf and the hunt
Collectors need two lists: what they own, and what they are still looking for. ViniVault keeps both, and does not mix them.

Own it, or hunt it
A record on the wishlist is not part of the collection, and it does not change the value total. When you buy it, you collect it onto the shelf and it stops being a want.
The hunt is also a shop problem. You want a short list in your pocket, not a forum thread from last year or a note left in the car.
Mixing the two lists makes every other feature less honest. You would be pricing records you do not own, and 'do I own this?' would say yes when the record is only a wish.
A hunt needs a name and a limit
A useful want is a specific artist and title, sometimes a particular pressing. 'Something by them' is not a list you can check in a crate. A price you will not go past belongs in the note, so you see it while you are standing there.
Vinyl Hunter can watch for a copy you have asked it to find. An alert is not a purchase. You still decide whether the pressing and the grade are the ones you wanted.
How this works in ViniVault
The wishlist is its own list. Statistics shows a Still hunting count, which is the size of that list. Collect a record onto the shelf when it comes home.
Do I own it? checks both lists, so a familiar sleeve in a shop can be an owned copy, a want, or neither. The shelf itself remains only the records you have.
Questions
- Does the wishlist count as owned?
- No. Wanted records stay off the shelf, and out of the collection value, until you add them.
- Can I see how many records I am still looking for?
- Yes. Statistics includes Still hunting, which counts the wishlist.
