List a vinyl collection for insurance

Insurers want a list, not a feeling that the shelf is valuable. ViniVault is a private inventory you can export, with prices you typed and a guide where you did not.

What to put on the list

Artist, title, and a value are the useful columns. The price you paid is the honest figure when you know it. A market guide fills the gaps, and it should be described as a guide.

Photos of sleeves help you recognise a record later. They are not a substitute for the list. An insurer, or you in five years, needs the names.

Say how the figures were reached. Some rows are what you paid. Others are a middle asking price on Discogs for an ordinary used copy, or a recent eBay sale when Discogs had nothing usable. That is not the same as a valuer walking the shelf.

A list you can explain

A round number from memory is hard to defend later. A catalogue with one row per record is easier to stand behind, especially if the line under the total says how many records are included.

Some policies ask for a professional valuation above a certain sum. ViniVault does not replace that. It gives you the inventory to take to an insurer or a valuer, and a working total for your own sense of the shelf.

How this works in ViniVault

Type what you paid on the records where you know it. That figure is the one collection value uses, including zero if the record was a gift. Export CSV from Account and keep the file with your papers.

The total in Statistics is a collector's guide, not a quote from an insurer and not a promise of what a shop would pay. Export again after you add a large run of records.

Questions

Is the collection value an insured sum?
No. It is a guide from prices you typed and from prices asked or recently sold. Ask your insurer what they need. Use a valuer if the policy requires one.
Should I wait until every record has a price?
No. A partial list that says how many records are valued is more useful than no list. A typed price puts a missing record into the total.
