ViniVault/Hunting
A vinyl hunting app for records you are chasing
Keep a note of the records you want and do not own yet. ViniVault stores that list on its own, and Vinyl Hunter can watch for a copy.

Decide what you are chasing
A hunt works when the artist and title are specific. 'Something by them' is not a search you can alert, and it is not a search you can finish in a shop.
Price matters too. A hunt without a ceiling will find copies you would not buy. The ceiling belongs in the hunt, or in the note on the wishlist, so you see it before the excitement of finding the sleeve.
The moment you own a record, it belongs on the shelf, not on the list of things you are still looking for. Leaving it on both lists is how the catalogue stops being true.
Remember it, then watch for it
The wishlist is the memory. Vinyl Hunter is the watch: a saved hunt for a copy you named, with a note when one turns up. An alert does not buy the record. You still decide if the pressing and the grade are the ones you meant.
The shelf itself stays the records you already own. Statistics can show how many you are still hunting, so the want list has a size and not only a feeling.
How this works in ViniVault
Put the record on the wishlist so you remember it. Open Vinyl Hunter from Discover when you want a hunt watched. Check Do I own it? before you pay, so a find is not a duplicate of something already at home.
When the record comes home, collect it onto the shelf and type the price you paid while you remember it.
Questions
- Is hunting the same as the collection?
- No. Hunts and wants stay separate from the records you own. Only the shelf is the collection.
- Will an alert buy the record for me?
- No. It tells you a copy has turned up. You choose whether that copy is worth buying.
