ViniVault/Hunting
Make a list for a record fair
A fair moves quickly. A short list on your phone beats a note you left in the car. ViniVault is that list: wants, plus a way to check what you own.

Prepare the night before
Pick the wants you would actually buy at fair prices. Leave the daydreams at home. A short list is something you can scan between tables, which is the only speed a fair allows.
Charge the phone. A catalogue you cannot open is a paper list you did not bring. Add ViniVault to the home screen the night before, and sign in, so you are not creating an account in a queue.
Write a ceiling in the note on any want that has one. Fair prices move with the room. A number you decided at home is calmer than a number you invent while holding the sleeve.
At the fair
Use Do I own it? on anything that looks familiar, especially best-ofs and records you think you bought years ago. Then look at the pressing. The list tells you the title. The label tells you the object.
When you buy it, collect it from the wishlist or add it to the shelf while you remember the price. A want you leave on the list will send you hunting for a record that is already in the bag.
How this works in ViniVault
Read the wishlist before you leave. At the fair, search the shelf and the wants. Record fairs in Discover can help you find where to go, from a UK postcode or town, within about ten miles.
If the hall has a weak signal, open the app before you go in, while you still have a connection, so the shelf is already on screen.
Questions
- Can I tick a record off while I am there?
- When you buy it, add it to the shelf or collect it from the wishlist. The want then stops being a want.
- Should the list be every record I have ever wanted?
- Keep the long list at home if you like. The list for the fair should be the records you would buy that day.
