ViniVault/Hunting

Find a particular pressing of a record

The album name is not the object. The pressing is. ViniVault asks you to pick the copy that matches the vinyl you own or the one you want.

Read the label, then the list

Catalogue number, label, and country tell pressings apart. The album name does not. A later reissue can share the title, the artist, and even the front cover, and still be a different record.

If you are hunting a pressing, write those details in the wishlist note so you do not buy the wrong one in a hurry. A sleeve from the copy you want, if you have a picture of it, is the reminder you will trust later.

When you own the record, pick that pressing as you add it. The sleeve saved for the shelf should be that release, or a placeholder, or a photo you upload. A guessed cover from a different edition is worse than a blank.

What to write down

Label, catalogue number, country, and year, if you can read them. A note that says 'UK first, black label, not the later reissue' is more useful in a shop than a note that says 'the good one'.

If you are not sure which pressing you own, pick the closest match and say so in the notes. You can edit the record when you have the vinyl in front of you and the run-out or the label makes it clear.

How this works in ViniVault

When you add a record you own, choose the pressing that matches. For a want, store the label and catalogue number in the note. Vinyl Hunter can watch for a copy of a title you name. You still check the pressing before you buy.

Do I own it? tells you whether the artist and album are already in the vault. It does not prove the copy in your hand is the same pressing. Read the label.

Questions

What if I am not sure which pressing I own?
Pick the closest match and say so in the notes. You can edit the record later, when you have checked the label.
Will the sleeve always be the right edition?
It is the sleeve for the release you chose, when that image exists. Otherwise you get a placeholder, or you upload a photo of your own copy. It will not invent a cover from a different record.
