ViniVault/Shelf
Pick a random record from your shelf
A large shelf hides records you meant to play. Random Record in ViniVault chooses one from the collection you catalogued.

Let the shelf suggest
Choice gets narrower as the collection grows. You play the front of the shelf, the recent purchases, and the records with the spines you can read. A random pick is a way back to a record you have not held in years.
It only works once the records are actually in the app. An empty vault has nothing to offer. A half-catalogued shelf will only suggest the half you typed in, which is another reason to finish the rack.
The draw is from records you own. The wishlist is not a pile of records you can play. A want is a hunt, not a suggestion for this evening.
A prompt, not a programme
Random Record does not know your mood, and it does not avoid what you played yesterday. Listening history is the log of what you already chose. If you want that story, read the history. If you want a surprise, take the pick.
You can ignore it. The point is to break the habit, not to obey a machine. Put the record back if it is the wrong hour for that album, and draw again another night.
How this works in ViniVault
Catalogue the shelf, then use Random Record. It draws from what you own. Sleeves help, because a title you do not recognise is easier to trust when the cover is the one on the shelf.
Ratings and notes stay on the record. The random pick does not score it, and it does not change what the collection is worth.
Questions
- Can it avoid records I played yesterday?
- It picks from the collection. Listening history is the log of what you already chose yourself. The random pick is a fresh draw, not a filter on that log.
- Will it suggest a record I do not own?
- No. It draws from the shelf. Wanted records stay on the wishlist.
