ViniVault/Shelf
Keep a loan log for records you lend
Lent records leave the house and not always the memory. ViniVault includes a loan log so you know who has what.

Write the name down
A loan without a name is a missing record. A loan with a name and a date is a conversation you can have, months later, without accusing the wrong person.
The record is still yours. The log should not remove it from the collection, and it should not take it out of the value guide. You have lent it. You have not sold it.
Write it down when the record leaves the house, not when you notice the gap on the shelf. By then the afternoon has blurred and two people might have borrowed something.
Still on the shelf, in the catalogue
Do I own it? should still say yes. A lent record is owned. If the log deleted it, you might buy a second copy, or leave it out of an insurance list, which is the opposite of what a loan note is for.
Clear the loan when the record comes home. A log full of records that are back in the rack teaches you to ignore it. The useful lines are the ones still out.
How this works in ViniVault
Use the loan log in Discover when a record goes out, and clear it when it comes home. The shelf still shows you own it. The note can say which copy, if you have more than one.
The log is private. The person who borrowed the record does not get an account, a login, or a view of your vault.
Questions
- Is the loan visible to the person who borrowed it?
- No. The log is in your vault. It is a note for you, not a message to them.
- Does lending a record remove it from the collection value?
- No. It is still yours. The total includes it on the same terms as the rest of the shelf.
