ViniVault/Value

How much is my vinyl collection worth?

A total for the whole shelf is a guide, not a price a dealer has offered. ViniVault adds one figure per record and shows that total.

One figure per record

If you typed what you paid, that figure counts, including zero if the record was a gift. Otherwise ViniVault looks for a middle asking price on Discogs across Very Good, Very Good Plus, and Near Mint copies, not the cheapest listing.

When Discogs has nothing usable, recent sold prices for that album on vinyl can fill the gap from eBay. A record with no price stays out of the total, and the count tells you so. A partial total should look like a partial total.

Worth, said of a whole shelf, is not a dealer offer and not an insured sum. It is a way to see the collection in pounds, with a method you can explain. Shops buy stock. Insurers have their own rules. The guide is for you.

Read the count under the total

A shelf of 200 records with 40 prices is not 'worth' the sum of those 40. The line that says how many are included is part of the answer. Wait while prices are still being looked up. The total moves as figures come in.

Common reissues of famous albums are often worth less than people expect. Odd singles and original pressings are often worth a closer look. The total will not tell you that on its own. Scarcest on the shelf is the place to start that look.

How this works in ViniVault

Open Statistics after the records are catalogued. The collection value line shows the total and how many records are in it. Type a price on any copy where you want your own figure to win.

The wishlist is not included. Wanted records are not owned, so they are not part of what the shelf is worth.

Questions

Will a shop pay the total?
Not as a rule. Shops buy stock, not a guide price. The total is for your own sense of the shelf. Price a real sale from the copy and the buyer in front of you.
Why has the number changed since yesterday?
Asking prices move, and records still being priced join the total when a figure arrives. A typed price stays put, because it is yours.
