ViniVault/Hunting

Get a note when a record turns up

You cannot refresh shops all day. Vinyl Hunter in ViniVault watches for a copy of a record you have asked it to find.

Name the record, then leave it

An alert is only as good as the title you gave it. Artist and album, plus a price you would actually pay. A hunt for 'their records' will not know when to write to you, and a hunt with no ceiling will write about copies you would leave in the bin.

An alert is not a purchase. You still decide if the copy is the pressing and the grade you wanted. The note tells you something is there. The label, when you look, tells you whether it is the one.

You cannot refresh shops all day. A saved hunt is there so you do not have to. It does not replace the wishlist. The wishlist is the list you read. The hunt is the watch on a record you named.

What you still have to judge

Pressing, sleeve condition, and whether you already own a copy are still your job. Check Do I own it? before you pay. A find of an album you already have is not a bargain. It is a duplicate.

Put the pressing you want in the note if it matters: the label, the country, the catalogue number. The alert can find the title. It should not talk you into the wrong edition.

How this works in ViniVault

Open Vinyl Hunter from Discover, start a hunt, and set what you are willing to spend. Finds come back to you. The wishlist remains your own list either way, and it stays off the shelf until you own the record.

When you buy it, add it to the collection and take it off the want list. Leave the price you paid on the record so the guide does not invent one.

Questions

Do alerts buy the record?
No. They tell you a copy is there. You choose whether to buy it.
Do I still need a wishlist if I use alerts?
Yes, if you want a list you can read in a shop. An alert is a watch on a named record. The wishlist is the list.
