ViniVault/Discogs

A Discogs wantlist and a private wishlist

The records you are still looking for belong on their own list. ViniVault keeps that list off the shelf of records you own, whether or not you also use Discogs.

Wants are not owned records

Mixing wants into the collection makes the value wrong and makes a shop visit confusing. You need a clean answer to 'I do not own this yet', separate from 'I already have it'.

You might keep a public wantlist and a private one. The private one can hold the copies you are particular about, the price you will not pass, and the pressing note you would rather not broadcast.

A want is not a smaller kind of owned record. It does not belong in an insurance list, a collection total, or a count of what is on the shelf.

Bring the owned records across, and write the wants yourself

The Discogs collection import brings records you own. It does not, on its own, fill the ViniVault wishlist. Add the wants you would actually buy, ideally before the next fair, while you are calm enough to be specific.

When you buy one, collect it onto the shelf. It then counts as owned, and it leaves the want list. Until that moment it stays out of collection value.

How this works in ViniVault

Add wanted records to the ViniVault wishlist, with the pressing and a price ceiling in the note if those details matter. Statistics shows how many you are still hunting.

Do I own it? checks the shelf and the wishlist, so a record in your hand can turn out to be one you already own, one you meant to find, or a new want.

Questions

Does the wishlist import from Discogs on its own?
No. The collection import brings records you own. Add wants to the wishlist in ViniVault as you go.
Does a want change what the collection is worth?
No. Wanted records stay out of the total until you own them.
